Front suspension painting

Post by Vtecmec » Sun Dec 16, 2012 8:03 pm

So I finished off most of the front suspension.

Into the bucket for a few hours to remove any traces of rust.

Image

Then scrubbed and dried off ready for paint.

Image

At the same time I popped out the balljoints and removed the paint from the upper control arms.

Image

Then a lick of red oxide as a base coat.

Image

And some colour.

Image

All ready for the bushes and balljoints.

Image

And fitted new balljoints.

Image

Some refurbed bolts and poly pivots.

Image

Then I cleaned the poly bushes, greased and refitted.

Image

I also picked up some new inner and outer front steering track rods. Even though they’re new, I painted them anyhow as previous experience has taught me the zinc coating does not last long.

Image

I also bought some new front struts, KYB Excel G’s.

Image

Again, seeing how quickly these things rust, I slapped some more paint on.

Image

Image

I’ve cleaned up one of the random air con brackets off the front end.

Image

Image

Image

I picked up a rear euro lip from Wurleycorner (thanks), but it needs a fair amount of work to sort it out.

Image

Image

Image

I just need to knock off the filler now and get it primed.

I removed the front wings in preparation of painting the front slam panel, and was expecting it to be a bit rough, but to my surprise, it all looks quite good, here it is after a clean.

Image

Image

The last bit of rust on the back end….

Image

After some detox gel.

Image

I’ve dropped some zinc paint on temporarily, until I get round to the colour stage.

A random shot of one of the exhaust undershields, just before painting, which I have done but forgot to take a pic.

Image

I’ve started to remove some of the stuff from underneath the front end, and have started to derust them.

Image

I’ve also been progressing with finishing the floor off, but I’ll post the pics of that when I’ve done it all.
