Thinking about it again, how much different is this to a dead battery. You jump a dead battery and the car recharges it.

Yeah. but again that earth goes back to the battery negative in order to complete the circuit which runs through the battery (the power source). You're removing the power source by disconnecting it.

You're right though Merl, you shouldn't cause any damage by disconnecting it.

well i used to have a loose negative .. used to mess my gauges up...( oil and temp) giving me fouls reading.. but she still ran

That could have just been down to the gauges being overly sensitive. Were they digital?

Someone's got to try it then! :lol:

My megane i had ran with the + terminal disconnected for 70-odd miles. Its when you turn the car OFF, is when you have issues, or youre not doing a constant speed.

That's why I was trying to think of where the second lead on the negative terminal goes. Obviously the alternator tracks back to the battery and that's why the primary circuit is broken, but is there a secondary circuit to keep it alive. With my battery relocation and wire tuck I should really know, but it's messed me all up! :lol: ... Plus I've got a headache :(

what a set of retards its your alternator that keeps your car running not the battery the battery is just used to start a car hahahaha loving all the advise u have been given hahaha
