Hope this makes sense, if it was me as the front hanger on the backbox on the pipework is in the same location just after that id have a little section similar to this that Donald posted

The rear hangers I'd have adjustable like the strap on type your talking about.

Should then result in with the extra section fitted its 5th gen compatible, section removed its the 4th gen compatible due to hangers being able to be moved.

Think I'm with you, but a pencil sketch would be most appreciated ;-)

Ah ok, just on the actual backbox section? I had in my head that you meant on the mid-section.

I think I'd just go with it jutting out further on the 4th gen as if it's that bad I could just trim the tailpipe down.

Yea as the center seems to be fine, its a good 2 inches it sits in on a 5th if using a 4th gen exhaust so would be quite a bit out if a proper 5th was swapped to a 4th.

Sits a little short but all the hangers lined up (bar one at the very end but it's an easy fix). There is enough wiggle room in the hanger positioning for the exhaust to still sit right once the exhaust is moved back (towards to rear of the car) a bit.

This same exhaust fits/fitted the same on both @A1ex and @andyconnolly's 5th gens IIRC.

No proper pictures but I will have it up on a ramp in a few weeks so can grab some pics and measurements of 5G hanger locations if needed. Admittedly I haven't changed the rest of it yet, but I can't see there being any issues because tons of people swap between gens/market.
I had to modify it after I got it from A1ex to fit the cat in and add a hanger on
