Poor cold start on 3rd gen

Post by Space1999 » Sun May 04, 2014 11:37 am

Hi guys - I've recently got my lovely 3rd gen 2.0i 4WS back on the road, and it's running beautifully...

...except when starting from cold. She starts quickly but splutters into life and doesn't idle very high (500RPM isn). Then as soon as I engage D or R (she's an auto), she stalls.

When the car's warm the it is running perfectly with no probs stalling - 700RPM idle.

Any thoughts on what it could be? Is there some sensor in the engine management that's related to cold starting, perhaps?

Any advice welcome!

Its function is to allow a small amount of air past the throttle body plate, effectively raising the engine speed slightly when cold, preventing stalling.

If anyone knows if a 3G has one please let me know - if it does it could well be the culprit!

It does. I'll try and remember to give you a link to my fix in my 3rd gen profile thread tomorrow.

I'm assuming yours is an injection engine?
