Hi all,

What would you do if you found this inside the combustion chamber?:

Is that an old block that's been sitting around and got wet?

You might be able to get it rebored +0.25mm but it's probably best to just pick up another used block.

This is the Mk1 Prelude project man. Another block might be hard to source!

Ask a specialist if it's salvageable and how much it'll be to bring it back? :? Otherwise let us know the engine number so we can keep a look out.

Oh...

Get some wire wool down there to clean off the crap and check for any deep pitting.

Getting it sleeved would be an option if the budget is there.

Accord I think, the Triumph was a 1.3 (Shared the engine with the Civic).

Off topic slightly, but sweet Jesus! I've just spotted a brand new clutch kit for an EL engine for a tenner! :o

I take it you're wanting to keep a standard engine in there? I'd do as Judderod has suggested and carefully remove all the oxidization and then re-examine to see how bad the walls are. They might not even be that bad and might just polish out!

Hi guys,

The pic was taken through the intake and that's a valve stem you're seeing there with all the rust on it.
Sourcing another block is not an issue, I actually have one, although I don't think it's in any better shape than the one I'm working on. Neither one of the two engines was started up for about 5 years...

I found a source for a complete gasket+seals kit for 50 quid here in Hungary, so I'll just pull the engine apart and clean everything up.

I'll keep you all posted and thanks for all the input.

Nandi

ps.: Nathan - thatt clutch is well spotted, thanks!
