 Actually most of the pics of the aftermarket pullies you can get don't have splines in them do they? I always thought they looked odd... I wondered why. I know that the S2000 pulley I have to fit is splined and so is a Euro-R, which are both compatible with the Prelude. But maybe all that is require is the woodruff key to key it in :?

The standard Prelude pulley is splined as well isn't it? (Never removed mine)

well maybe its not as bad as i thought
yup Nathan the standard pulley has internal splines that should slot into the splines on the crankshaft
I didnt realise that the aftermarket pulleys have a smooth inner bore - if that the case then i could either refit the old oem pulley or buy an aftermarket one-put a new woodruff key in and torque it back up and keep my fingers crossed :)

Providing you're not missing any meat on the crankshaft as that would induce play. Still promising though :)

No meat missing on the crankshaft-you can just see where the splines were.
I have ordered up a new woodruff key from Honda at £6.91
The only other thing i noticed was the timing belt was slack on the side that faces the front of the engine and tight on the side nearest the firewall - never done timing belt b4 so dont know if this is normal or not.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Ummmmmm, there is nothing wrong with that crankshaft.

The crank nose doesn't have any splines in the first place. There are what some people would call splines on the crank pulley but these are literally just ridges machined into the pulley bore to prevent it from siezing to the crankshaft nose.

Providing the woodruff key is not damaged (which it doesn't appear to be through the grainy pics) and that the crank nose diameter has been worn down then it will all be just fine.

Joyous tidings :D
Thanks for the info.

Pulley is fine
Bolt is fine
Crank snout is fine
Woodruff key intact - new one ordered from Honda

Will check the timing marks on the cam gears and adjust the valve clearances refit the pulley and aux belts and should be good to go...

Good news - decided to refit the pulley and belts as timing marks were all spot on - done that and all is fine - just need to torque up the pulley bolt and that should be me - damn forgot to refit cambelt cover so will have to redo all this again  This is all temporary as i really need to renew belts and pump etc

I plan to do the following asap as the engine is near 120k mileage and it 11 years since timing belt was done.

Timing Belt
Balancer Belt
H23 Manual tensioner conversion
Water pump
Balancer shaft retainer
Possibly - Crankshaft seal / Balancer shaft seal/ Camshaft seal x 2
valve clearance

Dont think ive missed anything....
