Rectangular helper springs. Where to find replacement?

Post by eDaniel » Tue Jul 23, 2013 1:22 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for a shop/store where I can order such rectangular wire springs. I contacted two companies but they told me that they offer maximum of 63mm outside width :(

This is what I'm talking about:

What OD, ID, compressed and uncompressed height do you need?

@mercutio: Tanabe told me that a pair of springs is $130.00 excluding shipping, VAT and custom taxes. The shipping is something like $49. The VAT is 20% and the custom taxes about 5%. So ~148 GBP for a pair :?

@NafemanNathan: ID 49mm, OD 74mm, 56mm uncompressed. Not sure what is the compressed height though. Judging by the function of these springs (they are not so important) the dimensions can vary a bit, especially the length. Correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: The compressed size is ~3cm.

Closest I can find is ID 38.5mm, OD 70mm, uncompressed 70mm, fully compressed 33.2mm.

That's the largest a particular supplier of mine stocks, but they're only £13.35 +VAT each plus shipping.

Oh sh*t! Sorry for giving you wrong dimensions. The springs are in a friend's garage and he measured the dimensions for me (in a wrong way).

Here are the correct dimensions:
ID: 60mm
OD: 76mm
Wire size: 8mm
Compressed and uncompressed length should be the same.

Thanks to both of you (@NafemanNathan and @Confused)

2.25" helper springs from Faulkner should sort you right out.

Their only purpose is to stop the stronger springs rattling when you jack the car up and the suspension drops - the 4lb ones from Faulkner are about £15 a piece :)

Afraid that one I mentioned is still the closest match. The compressed height and uncompressed height can't be the saem though... Otherwise it would be solid ;-)

Sounds like Confused can sort you out anyway :)

The same as the previous I posted... Uncompressed ~56mm and compressed ~30mm. :)
I contacted Faulkner as per your recommendation. Thanks once again!
