What's my engine worth?
What's my engine worth?
Just weighing up some options and wanted to get some ideas on what my H22 might be worth, either complete or as parts. Here's a paste from my rebuild list (starting at the top of the engine, working down):
Refurbished wrinkle red rocker cover
EGR blanked off
Custom PCV system
JUN high lift cams
JUN valvesprings
Adjustable cam gears (degree'ed correctly)
Crower titanium retainers
16 new OEM valves (3 angle)
New OEM rocker shafts
New OEM open spring type LMA's
Supertech bronze valve guides
Portmatched & deburred head (basically a mild intake port/polish)
Accord type R intake manifold (portmatched)
New 68mm throttle body (portmatched)
New TPS
Hondata intake manifold gasket
Ultrasonic cleaned OEM 345cc injectors
Magnacor HT leads
New HT coil
NGK plugs (colder)
Standard thickness head gasket
Rebored, honed and painted block
Mahle high compression pistons, rings & pins (+0.25)
Honed OEM rods
Weight matched reciprocating assembly (+/- 0.5g)
Clevite & ACL bearings (standard clearances)
New OEM oil pump
New OEM water pump
New OEM manual timing belt tensioner
New OEM harmonic balancer/crank pulley
Neptune RTP ECU (every setting fully tuned)
Neptune tunerview II
Fully road tuned, never been dyno'ed but will do 0-60 in under 5.7 seconds on a racelogic performancebox (fully loaded car, road tyres, AC, PAS, balance belt, etc.) so good for about 260BHP.
Has done about 12K miles and compression is still as good as new. Does not use any oil. I think there's about £3-4K in parts alone there.

I wonder if youd get more breaking it
seems to be the way these days
not many people have £2-3k to spend on their lude let alone just on an engine.

Just got the calculator out and found my invoice pile for the build. There's well over £5K worth of parts alone there
And that's at US prices. If the OEM stuff was bought from Honda UK, it'd be nearer £7K
Not to mention the hundereds of hours stipping, cleaning, building, measuring, calibrating, painting, fitting, tuning etc. etc.
I guess I could settle for £3K depending on what's included. But it's only worth what someone will pay for it. Thanks for the heads up guys. And for the people interested in breaking/parts, that's a probably never going to happen (it'd be hard enough to sell it whole, but to break open an engine put together as well as that one is would just be too much for me).

Thanks for the info Merlin I didn't know that. IIRC that one had skunk cams? My JUN cams and springs cost about twice as much as the skunks so maybe £3K is reasonable.Merlin wrote:This was all public info anyway but yeah it was £2650 minus the intake mani, TB, ECU and some other bits. Basically just the long block without the intake & bits.
