Post by Cobutops » Thu Apr 04, 2013 8:44 am

I woke up to this yesterday. Some idiot in a Passat has made there best effort to write her off.

I know it looks pretty terminal but I am hopefully going to operate on her this week end and prey I don't find out anything massive.

Anyone ever undertaken a repair like this before? any advise.

I'll be back with more pictures and details later

Cheers

Yea i was just getting out of bed! it was parked out side of my house, the front end damage was caused buy it being flung forward into my dads van.

i know it's likely to be a scrapper but i don't want to give up on her yet. i love the car and from the quick assessment i have made so far it looks like the rear quarter is fine but the is some creasing to the boot floor only going about 6 or 8 inches in.

I'm preying it's one of those rare looks worse than it is things, rather than the other way round

Anyone looking for parts, might want to watch this space. She's an A8

Gutted for you mate :( Did the idiot in the Passat hang about for you?

I was going to say, going by those pics the rear quarter looks to be surprisingly ok! If there's a subtle crease in the boot there's a chance it can be pulled out. Make sure you check the fuel tank for damage as well.

Damn dude, that's unlucky!
There may be a plus-side tho, when I flipped my green 'lude the insurers wrote it off, paid me out and then I bought the smashed steel back off them for £50 - including delivery to my house!!! I bought it back for the gearbox, sadly the driveshafts had punched holes in that so all I could salvage was the rear bumper and one wing mirror... but that's not the point.

Thanks for the advise, thats a good point about the tank... there is no fuel on the road so hopefully its ok but obviously there could be a hole or crack higher up.

Luckily the guy in the Passat knocked at the door and admited fault, annoyingly his car wasn't very damaged at all :x

I'll try and get a few more pictures tonight and some pictures on Saturday when i get the bumpers off.

It's not sounding good but i will try to stay positive :(

Yea i have all ready settled with the insurance and get to keep the car on a Cat D loss, so if it can be repaired it will be straight back on the road.

I forgot to mention i have a full bumper set with motegi kit in the right colour sat on my drive, which was going to go on there anyway! :)

Gutted for you mate. Hopefully it looks worse than what it is, you may take the rear bumper off and find its ok and you just need a bumper bar, a bumper and a bit of bending with a hammer.

To remove the rear bumper, theres 2 supports underneath the bumper, a few bolts on top of the bumper where you open the boot, 1 bolt on each rear wheel arch. Its then just held on with a clip either side that you just pull to unclip. Its literally a 5 min job to remove. Theres a link on here with pictures but I can't find it.

Front bumper removal how to is here:
