What to do to the SiR S-Spec for more power ?

Post by andyconnolly » Tue Apr 09, 2013 8:49 am

Looking to upgrade the car, its got an AEM V2 Induction kit, uprated HT Leads and sparks think that's all just now.
Looking at a remap, wheres best place to go (stay near Glasgow) ?
What intake manifold ?
Throttle body ?
Exhaust system ?

(don't know much about the H-Series)
Any suggestions ? :D

I can easily name you the best place for a tune and the two best places for an exhaust, but I'm afraid they're no where near Glasgow :(

Performance Autoworks (Glouchestershire) for the Tune.
Solid Fabs (London direction) or Pro-Speed (South Wales) for a custom exhaust.

Does the inlet manifold on an S-Spec still have dual runners? If so an ATR or Skunk2 manifold with the matching larger throttle body after a tune will be an upgrade.

Performancetek or Heny Roy are the two common Honda places near us.

How much power do you want? That is the question.

I couldn't tell you what the manifold is, how can you tell if its dual or not and ill take a look after work ?
England's too far for me to travel really.
I had thought about Henry Roy, spoke to him about getting my civic mapped when its done. Think he charges 300 for the map.
I'm looking to get about 250 (or more if possible without any major mods) from it meant to be (220 roughly at standard)
Do performancetek do exhausts ?
I used RMS Engineering in prestwick for the civic they did a cracking job but its just too loud.

I'll check them out on the computer after my break.
Want to get the mods on before I get a map, then want to get a proper dyno day

Your intake manifold will most likely just be OEM, the ATR single runner intake mani looks quite different. There are Blacktrax IM's (which look OEM) but they are extremely rare in this country and are mainly found in the US.

If you are wanting power and not just noise you will need to replace the stock exhaust manifold as well which is going to cost mega bucks for an off the shelf.

For the ECU you first need to decide what IM you want to use, the standard IM has dual intake runners (IAB's Idle Air Bypass) that not all Honda ECU's are natively able to control. The P72 does controll them while the P28 and P30 do not. You can get the P28 and P30 fitted with an IAB control board though. You then need to think about what tuning software you want to use, Hondata, Crome, etc... Since you are swapping the standard ECU for an OBDI ECU you will need the correct converion harness.

Adding an IM, TB, exhaust and tuning might get you somewhere between 235 & 245 bhp depending. There are a few people on the forum who have the same compression and cams with these mods and they have got in this BHP range:

http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/profile ... -t664.html

There are alternatives to straight out raw power (final drive etc..) but you are limited by your OEM LSD gearbox.

I actually have a P28 sitting in my room, got it for the civic but its in no rush. Not sure what software to run though.

Will need to take a look at the IM's see what i want

Best bet is a Hondata s300 chip. You'd probably want the ATR inlet manifold then as you wont have itb control with the p28 ECU
