Upper Ball*ache* Joint
Upper Ball*ache* Joint
Hi guys,
Quick question.
Is the only way to replace a front upper ball joint is to replace the entire control arm?

The only place I've found the ball joint alone is on eBay everywhere else seems to sell it complete with the control arm.

Rocky - yep, I just replaced the whole arm last time because it was needed for the MOT. Flipping expensive though!

Same issue here. Ball joint around £15 and the control arm is £100 and that's after £160 for petrol tank refurb, £170 for tyres (should have been £140 but Blackcircles ballsed up) and £155 for new spring, tracking, headlight bulb and retest (should have been £122 but the TESTER BROK HIS LEG SO HAD TO TAKE IT ELSE WHERE AND BE CHARGED FOR A FULL TEST INSTEAD OF A PARTIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!indigolemon wrote:Rocky - yep, I just replaced the whole arm last time because it was needed for the MOT. Just replaced the upper arm on my daily. Only the ball joint was shot, but long story short I didn't think you could get the ball joint on it's own so ordered a complete upper arm from Motorfactors (£76.12 I think it was). Turned out I could have got just the ball joint from PAW, but that would have been a whole different story when it came to fitting. That would have required removal of the old joint from the arm and installation of the new joint, so the need of a press. But simply replacing the whole arm was a 10 minute job... Including jacking up the car and removal of the wheel
