The valuations quoted are prices you should aim to pay for a used car, not the advertised price. You should adjust your valuation to allow for extras that were not standard specification.

Sell your car now

Private Good: £430
Private Average: £300
Private Poor: £170
Part Exchange: £360
Trade: £302

Thats the prices insurance will pay out on a 95, fair enough its a standard uk version but gives an idea, pennies if ts crashed into.
Sorry mate, I'm a Prelude enthusiast, so that's just nonsense to me ;-)
Unfortunatly this is how most insurance companies work, Bennyboy is one of the few that have done it the corect way and got an agreed value if a mishap does happen, thats my plan for when my insurance is up for renewal as ill finally be able to protect my no claims.
I had my silver daily driver insured with an agreed value of £2000. It was OEM barr the lip, the catback and wheels.

No, I've known for years that Insurers are scum ;-)

Anyway we've all missed a major trick here as well (And this isn't to try and say that bennyboy and I are "right"), but the pure fact that both he and I have defended this guy's asking price goes to show we're two of the few that would be prepared to pay his asking price, thus suggesting it surely can't be too high :geek:

Hey hey! There it is! :D

Even at 2k for your OEM no rust examples these cars are way undervalued IMO.

If I could go back and buy my car again knowing how reliable they actually are as well as the way they drive and all the other goodies, I would probably have paid twice as much.

I'm not sure if I've made a point. :?

Basically if someone came up to you and said if you give me a grand I'll give you a car that's near enough 200bhp, has air con/heated seats/4WS/CC/all electric stuff and is a 2 door performance coupe that will embarrass quite a few supposedly better cars, you'd probably think that something must be wrong with it.

I aint even mad but people don't pay enough for these cars, which is probably why I wont sell mine for a long time because I know I'd be disappointed if it went for what people are paying now.

To put this in perspective, someone I know paid £1600 for a 51 plate Corsa with the same miles as my Prelude. They're not the brightest of people but still... If a drokking Corsa can sell for that much why can't a Prelude?

Just look at this:

If the car isn't overpriced, why hasn't it sold? Because the right (richer than me) buyer hasn't turned up yet - we all know this is a high price for a 4g, just because you can buy them all day long for less than £500, if its above average condition then its worth an above average price, but only if there's a buyer for it.

And Donald, whether we like it or not the Corsa is a more popular car than a Prelude for the masses because they are cheaper to run, insure, tax, fix etc, so they can command a better price, just like you can pick up 6 litre Jags for pennies nowadays.
