I find it's best just to beat the whole engine block with a mash hammer till it all stops. Problems solved.

There's no problems breaking through and prising it out that's what I've done, and a large sized socket to put it back in, seen it done this way many times for all tips like frost plugs etc,

Well that requires a bit more work, I'm sure that link that was posted he didn't know it was dual ended, as alot of cam plug seals aren't on other models, so I don't see the need for picking on someone who was just trying to help.

Don't buy a new one.

Fill it with decorator's caulk.

But then if you don't know, you shouldn't really be guessing and giving advice. It would have been fair enough if he'd suggested simply removing the valve cover to have a look as there shouldn't be any harm in that, but the guy told him to drive a screwdriver through it! :?
