Fine at present, and doesn't seem to be any problem starting her up either

A vac leak would show up on idle due to exra air getting in (rolling idle as the IACV tries to compensate). Does the car still have the cat convertor on it? If so maybe it has collapsed. Is the exhaust leaking anywhere?

Yes car still has cat on it. No sign of exhaust leaking from what I can tell.

Seems to be running fine again now, STRANGE!

Now I think about it I did put some performance octane boost in the petrol recently from Halfords. I used unleaded 95 petrol as was advised, but I put the whole bottle in half a tank, rather than a full tank. It said that you should put in 50litres of petrol with the octane boost solution. Well I deffo didn't, could this have caused a problem? Didn't think it would matter to much, but maybe it does? Could the mixture be to rich for the engine?

I wondered if this would be one of those self fixing issues  Chances are it could have been fuel related. Maybe there's a bit of sediment in the tank that got disturbed and caused a bit of a blockage when you broke hard :?:

Just a quick question though, does putting to much high concentrated performance octane in your car, with not enough fuel ie not a fullfull tank or anywhere near as suggested, damage your engine, or for that matter actually effect your performance of the car to make it run far worse. Just hoping its the later and that im haven't damaged my engine as a result. Also could it be too rich for the cat converter, and damage it?

Some answers would be great. Cheers Peachy

how many times are you going to buy some useless crap without coming on here first :?: we have all been there and done it and drawing from all that have bought good or bad bits can save you money and grief ;)

those petrol add in's are bum droppings  and none of them can claim to do anything :(

To be fair Dbo it was just a high octane mix to help the engine run better from Halfords retailing at 10.99. I haven't brought anything else off ebay since I spoke to you mate, honest!

Unleaded 95 does not have octane in so I buy it in the bottle and put it in the car that way, rather than putting in Unleaded 97 with octane in already from the fuel pumps [it works out cheeper for me anyway to run the car]

It has to do something mate, maybe not so much performance related other than cleaning out the system-which on it own would help the car run better surley? And if this is not the case why do Fuel garages have it in there petrol then? ie Shell V power [with octane]?
