I know this is a bit redundant now but I've just found the receipt for when mine was done at a main dealer.

From what I can make out the timing and balance shaft belts were done, but no water pump, and a full service was carried out. Check list states that the water pump only needed to be checked, not replaced. Total cost £495 inc. VAT.

It also states 72,000 as the interval... but then also says mine is a 2.0L so whatever :|

How can the world change so much in a year?

My timing belt went on Sunday taking the water pump and tensioners with it (maybe the water pump went first?).

News is that I am being quoted 1,100 inclusive for what I am coming to think of as Phase 1 - basically rebuilding the outside bits without taking the hat off and poking at what lies therein. I daren't tell you what that might cost.

Still, at least a valve is only 13 nicker.

Err, it depends on how the belt failed... If it slipped then it's possible for the valves to collide and become bent - I know this from recently when it happened to me. If it 'just' snapped they you could be lucky, but there is a 15-20% chance of damage to the valves even if you were out of VTEC. You'll only know if the valves etc. were undamaged once the cambelt etc. are replaced, when a compression and leak test can be done.

The whole, sorry story is here:

And here's what it can cost:

I'd recommend PAW if you can get your Lude to them - see the ad in the list of forums. If you've breakdown cover they may take it to PAW - might be worth checking...

Dobbs.
