3rd gen overheating problem

Hey folks,

In the last couple days, whenever I'm waiting in a traffic jam or just not moving with the engine running, my temperature gauge keeps shooting upwards.

When I start moving again, the temperature goes back down after 30 seconds or so.

I had a look at the radiator, and it's pretty battered (though it has been since i bought it). Could the hot weather at the moment make a difference?

The main damage to the radiator is right in front of the fan, so it only seems to cool properly when i'm moving and the whole radiator's getting cooled. The fan still works though..

This has only happened in the last 2 days, since it's been really hot.

Your radiator is dead men

i have the same problem but mine looks much better. temperature grows up then fan starts temperature going down. Its radiator problem in your car and in mine car. So buy new one

That's what I thought. That's okay, a rad change won't be too hard. It'll give me a chance to get some silicone rad hoses too

Yeah new rad time man

I've got a brand new rad in mine. After a mere 10 minute leisurely journey in this heat the fan will kick in straight after I turn the engine off, which suggests thermostat is set quite low as my engine's running a the perfect temperature otherwise. So I don't think it would take much of a dodgy rad to cause the engine to overheat.

Don't suppose anyone knows where I can get one for a decent price?

There's a Nissens one on ebay for £96, seems like a fair deal.

And is it literally a case of:
-empty system
-take off rad
-put on new rad
-attach rad hoses
-refill system
-bleed
?

You got a link bud? I think that might be the same place I got mine from. Think that was how much I paid. I can't recall exactly as I ended up speaking to them and ordering it over the phone. But if it is them it was great service. They ordered it directly from Denmark, or Holland, or Norway (Somewhere over there

), but it arrived after 3 days as promised.

And yeah, that's the right sequence

are there bleed nipples or do i just fill it up til it pours out the top?
oh and any idea where to get silicone radiator hoses from in the UK? I can't find them anywhere

nissens have always been decent as far as i know, and can't seem to find any alternatives anyway..
