3rd gen radiator fitting / bleeding

Post by fefelarue » Wed Jul 10, 2013 12:35 pm

Hey folks,

Unfortunately my radiator is fecked, so i'll be fitting a new one tomorrow, I just wanted a bit of advise before I start fitting it:

-Where is the coolant reserve tank? And do I need to empty this too? Or will it empty when I drain the radiator?

-Once full, and the engine's running, do i bleed it through the bleed bolt on the thermostat? Or through the top of the radiator? Or through the bleed bolt then the radiator? Everyone seems to be saying different things..

-How much coolant does it take to fill the system?

-What is the small pipe that comes out the top of the radiator and goes off to the left near the fuse box? Do I need to do anything with this?

Thanks a lot,

Felix

That's where the pipe from the rad cap into the wing is going. Little white plastic cap nearby with a dipstick in it to show the reserve tank level.

Open the bleed nipple on the thermostat. Fill the rad till no air is coming out the bleed nipple, only coolant. Nip up the bleed nipple, and fill the rad to the bottom of the neck. Run for a bit, top up as required.

See answer one :D

Make sure the front of the car is well elevated and make yourself a header tank to aid with the bleeding.

cool, cheers folks :)

I would be getting on with this now but I just bought the radiator from euro car parts and it doesn't fit :( The top mounting bits are in the wrong place.

So i'll order the right one and do it at the weekend lol
