Where is the AirCon thermostat located?

To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

Post by h10ndr » Thu Jul 18, 2013 2:34 pm

Hi, trying to follow the troubleshooting for the aircon and I have a pic on the bottom of page 22-18 of the air con thermostat... and I cant find it or recognise where it is from the pic...??? I have had a good look under there as I have the heater and radio out the dash, but its hiding....Anyone?

Not looked at the manual, butdo you mean the little thermostat hiding behind the little grill just to the left of the steering column shroud? Or at least track that sensor back.

From the diagram in the manual it looks like it is on the evaporator housing under the dash.

Around the the bit circled below. I seem to remember there is a wire that runs across the front of the evaporator housing, as I had to move it to get the evaporator out. Follow that wire and I am sure you will find the AC thermostat.

Nafe, I think that is the electronically controlled valve for letting hot coolant though to the heater matrix. UK & US Ludes have a wire controlled manual valve there.

Thanks everybody for answering so quickly...(what would we do without the LG forum?)

Merlin, I think you are correct...its just dificult to locate it with the glovebox and heater motor in your face
I'll take another look later.. the diagram does show a wire tracing around a box or something leading to it.

I should be able to see this right, without removing the glovebox etc?

I think you need to remove the glove box but that isn't a hard job.

Yeah, the bit that Merlin mentioned is what is used for turning the compressor on/off. This will switch off at around 2 degrees, and back on at around 6. Eco mode will change that to about 4 and 8.

[edit] This may actually be on the other side of the evaporator unit, it senses the temperature of the air passing through it before it goes into the heater matrix.[/edit]

If it's a UKDM, then this is the only sensor used (other than pressure sensor on the condenser unit).

For a JDM with digital climate control, there is also the following:
Internal temperature sensor - this is located behind the little grill to the left of the steering wheel
Sunlight sensor - this is located in the top of the dashboard, right in the corner by the windscreen on the driver's side
External temperature sensor - this is located at the front of the vehicle, behind the bumper, on the vertical metal support bracket

There is then also the valve for controlling the coolant entering the heater matrix - on a UKDM this is manually operated by the slider in the cabin, on a JDM this is electronically controlled.

Ok. I have a little update. I found the thermostat in the place Merlin pointed to. Except its been updated. Its a 3*c relay/resistor with 3 wires not 2 as per the workshop manual. Blu/red Blu/Ylw and Ylw/Blk. With ign on the ylw/blk had 12v not the blu/ylw as per manual. There was no continuity between the 2 pins blu/red blu/ylw either. But blu/red wire did show continuity back to the heator control panel, so I know the wires are not broken, and the control panel I soldered is working. I had it back out and tested the pins on the green connector with each of the switches pressed on/off and pins 1 and 2 control the air/con and were working correctly, and the buttons all light up fine. I've now ruled this out as faulty, and moved on to check the other components. Something else must be playing up.

My JDM chassis car is re-wired 100% UKDM from my old BB1. So although on paper its a JDM BB1 its identical to a 95 UKDM BB1.
