ATR cams in H22a2
Split from a different topic [Merlin]
On a similar theme, and the info gathered may be of some use; I'm supposed to be investing in some ATR camshafts at the end of the month for use in a H22A2. I was assuming that they would fit & work ok, but not so sure now.
Can somebody confirm this one way or another? And the reason why they will or will not fit. Thanks
Oh, and are all ATR camshafts the same between the 2.2/2.0/JDM/Euro R?

I've heard its a good idea to upgrade the LMA's to type r ones
not sure if that's essential

don't think it is essential from what i've read, but just might not get the best out of the cams that's all. this isn't the most important thing for me on this engine, just want to make it slightly better than stock as it's an A2. it's only going to be a 12 month stop-gap engine at any rate, while i build a decent project one.Lude-dude wrote:I've heard its a good idea to upgrade the LMA's to type r ones

can i run these cams on the standard ukdm ecu? i'll most likely be getting a chip from Rob as well. can you see any problems with this? really don't want to invest too much in this engine, other than ancilliaries i can transfer to the project one once ready for installation.Merlin wrote:I was going to put ATR cams in my old a2 and get it tuned. The only thing that stopped me was that one of the cams had snapped in transit. You need a tunable ECU to get the best out of them.

Trouble is the cams allow for more air into the engine, so really you need to allow for more fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio in check. A UKDM ECU with it's set map won't "learn" enough to make that compensation. One of Rob's chips may resolve this as I imagine they up the fuel ratio anyway, but he'd be able to advise further on that.CrunchyAdams82 wrote:can i run these cams on the standard ukdm ecu? i'll most likely be getting a chip from Rob as well. can you see any problems with this? really don't want to invest too much in this engine, other than ancilliaries i can transfer to the project one once ready for installation.

Well it will help a little, but the cams on their own and a chip won't maximise the use of the revised cam lobes, as to what you'd need, no idea??? Personally it's a tunable ECU and get it tuned to the exact setup.
What ECU are you using then for the project - UKDM or JDM ECU? The Spoon chip for the JDM's I've seen better results, but they have the higher compression and more power to begin with.
