Price from Honda for Timing Belt & Water Pump...

Post by NafemanNathan » Fri Mar 16, 2012 12:03 pm

I've just had a price from my local Honda dealer to fit a new timing belt and water pump. They quoted £441.36 inclusive of parts and VAT, which I thought wasn't that bad for a main dealer. Does that seem about right? I remember a thread from not so long ago on either here or PUK though, where someone said they were quoted about £215 or something from Honda (Maybe for just the belt replacement) I think... How did that pan out in the end? Was it Gav (Orange & black 4th)?

I did ask about the Honda Happiness Scheme, but she said it only kicks in for '98> and didn't think it would apply for a 2.2 anyway.

EDIT: It was £286.80 for just the timing belt. Then an additional £94ish for supplying the Water pump, which leaves £60.56 (I imagine an hours labour) for fitting the water pump... Which actually sounds a bit much :?

Ok - so first question is what does the price include?
It's very easy to get quote for a "timing belt change" but 99.9% of all Honda dealers will not quote for a new tensioner without you specifically asking for it. Most Honda dealers have no experiance of tensioner failures and are still under the impression that they last forever.

So ask if the job you've been quoted for includes the following

Timing belt
Balance shaft belt
Auto tensioner
Balance shaft oil seal retainer kit
Water pump
Coolant
Labour

You'll probably want to add in both auxillery belts too if they haven't been changed in a while

As for the separate water pump price - coolant would be included in that as well.... well I'd hope so anyway because there is no damn way that changing the pump adds and extra hour worth of labour to the job.

Anyway...besides all that...

Why the hell aren't you bringing it to me :P

Well firstly I've got "Gemma" ringing me back. She caught me at an awkward time, so I didn't ask what that price included. And secondly... I was hoping you'd reply to this thread

Can you PM me a price for everything you've listed above please? ;-) I looked at how long it would take me to get to you earlier as well, and you're 2 hours away. Is it something you could do whilst I wait? Obviously I wouldn't be looking over your shoulder or anything... Unless you wanted me to feed you donuts as you work ;-)

PM on it's way.
Yep, can do while you wait but just bear in mind it will be quite a long wait as the engine needs to be cooled to the correct temp for proper belt tensioning.
We have a comfy waiting room, with plenty of mags (no not that kind), and a kettle which you are more than welcome to use ;)
