possible fuel leak?

Post by Rob_Cool1 » Tue Jan 28, 2014 10:28 pm

Another issue im debating about.
I have an oil leak coming from the cam shaft seals which leaks a bit, but at the minute it's leaking hardly any, i check the oil quite regularly and its barely gone down over the last couple of weeks :/

The problem is that when i turn up to work there's drips all down the car park, i drive in at about 10mph and the drips are every 6-10ft (too much for a very small oil leak i thought). my fuel consumption has plummeted to 20mpg at best normally around the 18 mark so i'm wondering if it's fuel thats leaking? Before hand i was getting around 28-35! the drips look similar to oil drips but wash away really quickly unlike oil.

If it is fuel what would be the best place to start looking? i was thinking maybe fuel lines as from top there isn't anything obvious that's leaking.
Got my rad fan hopefully turning up wednesday or thursday so il be wiring that in too so hopefully no more overheating haha but this is annoying me now :/ especially as its super unleaded !

cheers in advance :)
Rob

If it was fuel on the ground you'd be able to see the difference. Also smell it next time. Might look like a pavement licker, but still

Well that looks like fuel :?

You need to get under the car and run your fingers along the fuel line and check the tank.

when i last had it on the ramp the other day there was quite a bit on the sump, il definitley check the lines and tank but yeah there as some on the sump, has gone all over the bottom of the strut and lower arm. il have to check to be sure though, any connections that could've made themselves lose?
where's the fuel filter on these? could that be blocked maybe?

bloody car! always something haha

If it's annoying you now you might not want to wait 'til morning to look at it. Take a lighter though, it'll be dark out.

(Seriously, good luck with it)

Drive over some cardboard and stay there idling then see where the stain is and you'll know where to look.

Back seat stains don't count.

If you've noticed it on the sump then it could be leaking at the fuel rail and tracking down to the sump. Being Benny had the head off and the inlet manifold I imagine he disconnected the line from the fuel rail, and therefore I wouldn't be at all surprised it he hadn't put it back together properly  If he'd damaged or lost the crush ring he probably would have just put any old washer in there, so check it all mate :)

Yeah, check the banjo at the fuel rail definitely, I know from experience it'll leak like a muffin if you don't put new crush washers on there if you undo it

Crush washers are nice and cheap at any rate mate so hopefully this should be an easy fix :)
