exhaust excitement :-D

Post by macky_6 » Mon Feb 17, 2014 10:42 pm

Every cloud has a silver lining :D

My exhaust started blowing this week

However, it accelerated my plans to get my breathing sorted.

So, booked my car into Meercat Exhausts, Ayrshire. ( not to be confused with Meerkat Exhausts who do off the shelf items, simples  )

Did a lot of digging on Forums etc and found that these are the guys who did the exhaust on Colin MaCrae's private mk2 Escort and do systems for full rally cars. So pretty decent standard!

They are fitting my Tanabe manifold, custom downpipe and a 2.5" system with removable de-cat. £350!!

Can't wait for the first week in March

Nice! I have used RMS in Ayr in the past, they were good. Never heard of Meercat exhausts in Ayrshire. Googling time!

I used RMS before too. However I did a bit of searching about them and there was loads of horror stories about them on the Web. One post in particular was from a guy who used to work for them who explained that there had been a change of ownership and that the new owner cut corners wherever possible. I reckon they are good for repair work only these days

In saying that, I have a receipt from Powerflow for my Lude that says they replaced the back box, and a de-cat for £420. The pipe in between these parts is in an awful mess and has been patched numerous times, badly  I guess it just depends on who you get and whether you are the type to check their work?

When I was looking at reviews I read loads of them to make sure it wasn't just some dafty with the phatest pipe claiming the good work. A lot of people who clearly know their stuff had work done there and were plaesed with the results. Most were astonished at the prices they were getting for bespoke work when similar company's were charging the same for off the shelf items..

Another good sign is that they are booked out for a few weeks ;)

Think Jayjay has a Tanabe manifold?? Is he still around?

Slight delay in fitting means I have time to get it polished up. Will get the pics up when I do
