BUILD PART 4) - Parts (Cont'd) – Electrical & Misc
Electrical – Battery relocate
Next up is kind of related to my engine build, but it’s going inside. It’s my battery relocation items. I’ve picked up an Odyssey PC680 dry cell battery – this thing is tiny and weighs very little compared to my full sized Varta battery. Something like 7kg as opposed to 15kg!
This thing is tiny!
Also a nice tidy battery hold tray.
I’ve also bought a battery cut-off switch:
This is mainly as I leave the car for long periods locked up in my garage and to stop the smaller battery draining – they lose there Oomph if left to drain too low a voltage.
I also picked up a 0 gauge wiring kit for an amp. This stuff is huge and will help to run the high current to the starter and branch off to the fuse box without overheating.
It came with an ANL fuse holder and 150amp fuse, which I’ll mount at the battery along with the cut off switch and a host of terminal connections. However the two main battery terminals I decided to beef up with some 0 gauge, gold plated items (not sure of the brand???):
I’ve come up with an ingenious method to the fuse block & cut-off switch, but I’ll post that when I fit it.
Miscellaneous
Beyond the above purchases and my engine build parts, I’ve picked up some other Mugen and Prelude related things.
I now have in my possession a whole host of original UK Dealer Prelude Service Manuals. Just missing the 96 supplement for 4th gens, even got the purple bodywork manual – anyone seen this? I have a few others too for older generations and a 5th gen 99 supplement. A nice collection for OCD me, to say I’m a little obsessed with these pieces of metal is getting to be an understatement.

Anyone else collected some of these?
Perhaps one of the most used pages in the bodywork manual – rear arch panel:
And the masses of wiring diagrams not in the pdf downloads, some of these are very long, like twice A3. I will get round to scanning these in for people (along with other stuff):
Now onto my Mugen! My Precious!
Some of you have seen my vast collection of Mugen brochures, leaflets and catalogues at the odd show, well I’ve picked up some more pieces for the collection and they’re extra special!
The first, I have searched high and low for – the 4th gen Mugen Honda Prelude brochure! Yes it is mine! Found from some random guy in the states. There is another type I’ve seen pics of, but this is a two sided A4 size item:

I’ve got 6 of those original Mugen products – not bad!
I also picked up a little collection of things from an old car brochure collector (fairly cheap to). He’d written to Mugen, Japan 22 years ago requesting them to send him a brochure of their products and what he got in return he sold onto me. I have the envelope, letter (dated 1989!), free old skool discontinued sticker, a couple of pages of Honda Legend items as this is the car that the collector owned at the time. And then last but not least the poster brochure!
Piccies:
3rd gen Mugen Prelude!
2nd gen Mugen Prelude!
Some cool retro stuff.
Cheers,
Rob
