Cylinder head question

Post by damon » Mon Nov 03, 2014 2:53 pm

I am considering buying a ready build uprated h22 head, and then putting in some big n/a possibly skunk2 stage 3 pro cams. I don't really want to touch the bottom end of the lude yet as its already got 11.1 pistons (a8) but possible future plans may change that.

if I buy this head and put in these chunky ass cams (already have an atr inlet ready), then have it mapped in via the Hondata, do you think I shall gain much? I mean more than I already could with the a8 cams which are the equivalent to the atr or type s cams? or is there no point until I can get the bottom end forged with bigger pistons etc.?

thank you!

Shunk2 Stage 2 Pro's will be the right ones for 11:1 comp pistons. You don't need stage 3's until you are running higher comp. I have the stage 2's and I have 11.5 comp Mahle pistons.

What has been done to the head?

Never will I boost a Honda lol. It did have turbo cams in it but the guy will take them out, then I can put NA cams back in.

personally i think stage 3 will be over the top for your build, i have stage 3 but will be running 11.5-1 pistons and have taken a fair bit off the head and a little off the block aswell as having flat faced valves to further bump up the compression. I also have a set of ITB's to bolt onto her after aswell as as 3 inch exhaust and fairly heavily modified exhaust manifold. i was still in 2 minds wheather stage 3 would be too much

I have a 3 inch system, manifold isn't as big tho, would the gains be worth it with that head and stage 2 cams? Would like to forge the engine but it would have to wait till my other car is finished.

Yeah, there'd be no point considering SK2 Stage 3 Pro cams without serious bottom end work.

Also, do you know what standard of P&P work has been carried out? Is it a full race spec or just a light P&P?

I believe from the spec that its the Crower filled head from that Accord Type R Turbo build the guy is breaking. He has/had the bottom end for sale on ebay too.
