Re: Thoughts on these
All my air boxes were given away earlier today [LOUDLY CRYING FACE][LOUDLY CRYING FACE][LOUDLY CRYING FACE] haha
I've a ram air filter on the end of this polished steel pipe though, just seems to keep slipping off when tightening and I've a good idea it's doing the same as the whale intake

That intake is renowned for its terrible heat soak (probably why it feels slower/lacking in power.
I had a whales pens on my ek9 when I had it and when I swapped that out for the aem v2 you could really notice the difference. Throttle response was quicker and it felt like it picked up better in the mid-top range of the revs. Didn't get a dyno printout to see if it was actually producing more power/better curve but it was definitely quicker.
Most people that I know that have a whales penis will say the same.

Cons...probably a lot of jizzx and bruising.
But no experience. I just can't turn a whale on like some of the civic guys.
Yeah ok, so aem v2 then... where would I find one of those without getting raped on price

well if you think about it the whale penis thing does what the type s intake does it holds a lot of air ready for when the throttle is opened. the downside of the whale penis is that it isnt a true cai its as bad as the ebay intakes because of heat soak so could be improved by fitting it into a long arm intake maybe???

Re: Thoughts on these
Any recommendations then on an intake system besides the stock black boxes?
The V2 is quite expensive tbh and very common... what about the "weapon-r intake"

Looks like it'll do the same as the intake in my lude (unless the filter actually drops into the gap between the bumper and wheel arch). I've got a k&n system on mine but the filter sits just on the other side of the battery. I can't help feeling like it's still suffering from heat soak though.
As the plans for my car are up in the air at the moment, if I were to keep the car, I'd get rid of the intake kit that's on there at the moment and replace it with one where the filter sits in the gap as previously mentioned. But it's looking like I'm going to be selling it come spring next year so the k&n is probably going to stay.
