Seriously need expert advise

Post by DaveyBa8 » Wed Oct 05, 2016 8:08 pm

Guys I can't get to the bottom of my over heating issue, I've just replaced the head gasket, got the head pressure tested and skimmed aswel. As part of the build the car has a new thermostat, rad, water pump, coolant temp sensor, gauge sender sensor.

Fired it up this evening and with in a few minutes I'd even the gauge goes to max, I mean the pipes aren't even in the slightest bit warm.

Heart is broke here, I've been tinkering and fixing cars for years! And I am truely stumped, any solutions no matter how weird or stupid they sound I'm willing to try.

Thanks

PLEASE HELP :(

Coolant topped up?
Could be a big air lock in the system

Maybe a silly question, but is it definitely over-heating? Is it just the gauge telling you or have you checked it by other means?

I'm think the same man that the gauge is faulty? The pipes aren't even warm at all

The gauge is on max but soon as I turn it to ignition 1. It's down at min?

It could be an air lock man, I've followed the bleeding procedure about ten times before I decided to take the head off for better inspection

hi if it was me i would be ignoring the gauge and feeling all the water pipes and radiator to see whats hot and whats not to get an idea of actual temps , you could also try draining all the coolant out and measuring it back in and compare that to coolant capacity , then if your not putting in the right amount you no there must be trapped air
success is the ability to go from one failure to the next without any loss of enthusiasm :D :D

Well the pipes wouldn't necessarily be getting warm or hot if there's no flow. It there's no flow then I'd guess at either the water pump not spinning or the thermostat not opening.

But if it's showing on the gauge as hot, then turning the engine off and back on straight away it's cold then that's not working properly.

How long are you letting it idle for from cold for it to show as overheating?

Best thing to do as said above just ignore the gauge and bleed up the system make sure you have the heater on in the car to allow water to circulate through the heater matrix and just make sure all coolant hoses are getting warm and thermostats open before putting the cap on the radiator...

Make a funnel to fit in the radiator if need be and keep the water level in the funnel is higher than the engine, could just be simple gauge fault...

Obviosly if it's not circulating and getting extremely hot don't go cooking it and doing damage ;)
