How do you "clock" 5th gen mileage (For the right reasons)?

To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

How do you "clock" 5th gen mileage (For the right reasons)?

Post by NafemanNathan » Thu May 11, 2017 11:53 am

I'm not wanting to do this for naughty reasons, but being my originally automatic SiR now has a completely rebuilt ATR lump in it and the car is also fitted with a set of manual Type-S clocks (So completely irrelevant to the chassis and engine) which are currently recording well over 212,000 miles I'd quite like to reset them to "0".

I don't want anyone to broadcast it over the forum (for obvious reasons), but if anyone knows how to do it and how simple/complex it is can you PM me please? :D I just don't want to run the risk of...

@nucleustylzlude I can vaguely recall you once upon a time saying you knew how it was done. Am I remembering that right? I've not had much luck googling it unsurprisingly

Also is there a legal process to doing this? Having read a few U.S. threads (Which have helped in no way), but they can get issued with a sticker that goes in the door shuts which gives a comparative figure for the old and new mileage. Now I have a sticker on the side of the dash that gets sandwiched by the doorcard. I've never known what it is, and can't check at the moment as the lude is at PAW, but I'm now wondering if that's what that is :hmmm:

I looked into this for similar reasons and seem to remember a guy located the chip and the actual 'file' and code where the mileage was recorded. After a few attempts he managed to change his (again, for legit reasons)
I didn't bother in the end though.
TBH, you're not doing it for fraudulent reasons/financial gain so I wouldn't worry about the legal side of things, I'd just document with photos the original mileage and then the new setup. That way if you ever sell (yeah right  ) then it's only an issue between you and the buyer. It's not as though the MOT flags anything up, mine has had a few different readings now because of clock changes, but frankly if anyone bought my car they would get the whole history anyway.

Those were my thoughts regarding the legal schpeal, but I just thought I'd mention it incase anyone wanted to get pinicketty ;)

You're thinking 4th gen speedos though (I will want to tackle those eventaully as well)... I have a feeling (I'm hoping) 5th gen ones will be simpler :|

Yes. I just don't want to take them apart to end up with eyes full of springs!

yeah although you have had the head rebuilt the rest of the car has still gone to the moon pretty much i would just record the mileage as it stands and note that down as the new zero remember the mileage isnt about the engine its about the car as a whole and even if you replace every bush bolt and balljoint the car still isnt new?
but if i remember the 4g you can just unhook the mileage and swap it into the clocks your using should you be changing to el or something but the 5g i havnt a clue i am sure it would be something like getting a drill on the back of the clocks lol as its manual not digital like the 4g
