Dash Blanked Hole

Lo All :D
Just a query about the 5th gen dash.
Just to the left of the steering wheel next to the control stick I have a hole that has a blanking cover in it.
Today I spotted a 5th gen which seems to have some sort of vent fitted there.
Just wondering what it was for ?

specifically climate control - aircon cars don't have it - they don't need to sense the temperature of the cabin - unlike climate.
