Hi there I have 2 P13 ECU's one which came out my import prelude which is also marked 2ws and I have one marked 4ws, which I'm guessing has come out a UK spec 4 wheel steer model, does anyone know if there is any performance difference between the 2? Will the UK spec ECU run the import car?
Thanks in advance
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

Both 2WS and 4WS ludes were available from Japan. Only 4WS ludes were available in the UK. So your 2WS ECU can only be from a JDM like you said, but your 4WS ECU could be from either. The differences besides compression ratios between JDM and UKDM is that the JDM lump runs a knock sensor, so plugging it into a UKDM lude will throw a CEL as it'll be looking for a knock sensor it can't find. (Shouldn't be an issue in your case).
The performance differences are negatable. JDM's are 197bhp with 10.6:1CR, UKDM's are 185bhp with 10:1CR.
You should be able to plug a UKDM ECU into a JDM, it just won't look for the knock sensor and might be slightly down on power. They are learning ECU's to a point, so after a while the performance should enhance, but it just won't peak where it should unless it's chipped.

Sorry to be jumping a thread again but it's P13 related so might help others too,so i had the Cel 13 and needed it gone for a test here for sale, spent some tricky to find but sourced one on Friday, plugged it in Cel went off, chuffed started the car all good, went shopping Saturday in it all good went to start it for work that evening it won’t start, swapped back in old one starts no problem won’t go on new one even though it did first time, any thoughts?
I can’t get the cel to blink on the swapped one but it’s staying on now but time first plugged in it went out.
Sad that my last few weeks of ownership has been a Pita but thats what i get for living with these issues til sale time
I have some pics of both, above one is a 2ws(my one) 4ws is the swapper.
4ws has the extra socket possibly for 4ws?
So close

Thanks

The extra socket is for the TCS system. This can be run on a car with only 3 plugs but will show a soft cell (only apparent if you actually check for codes).
There is no discernable difference between ECU's from 2 or 4 wheel steer cars, they are fully interchangeable.

Thanks Vtecmec any thoughts on why the car wouldn't start though?
Wouldn't be because the TCS is not present in my car by chance? There is no alarm or immobiliser on the car either but it just feels like it has been immobilised or fuel cut off when swapped and then no issues once swapped back to original but then it fired up instantly too the first time too which is even more confusing..
