What do you guys say is a good price to pay for a complete respray in the same colour?

I was quoted £270 for front bumper, both doors, both rear quarters and spoiler (so basically half a car), so I was going to see if he'd do the whole car for £500 when I went back to him. That is a very very good price though. Don't be surprised to pay in excess of £1500-£2000 for a proper job.

A decent job, I'd say £2000+

2k+ for anything you would want other people to see. 3.5k+ for a 'good' job.

your looking at maybe 400-500 in materiel alone.

nope.

however what you have to ask yourself is - is a 20 year old 4g worth a 2 - 2.5k respray eeerrr no. you would never recover this outlay, unless you plan on keeping the car then its a case of - is this car worth 2.5k to me, the answer to this would depend on how attached you are to the car ;) some folk spend real daft amounts of money on there cars, but in the end they all end up on the scrap heap, its inevitable. but you could also argue that cars like these will prob never be built again so in some respects it might be worth it, but first i would ensure it cant be ruined by rust, so a full rust protection would be a good idea, you also mention a respray the same colour, this option would be the cheapest but you wouldnt be able to rust proof the car this way without removing the old paint :? finaly the other problem would be if the car is written off would the insurance take into account of the new paint, prob not, they just payout the book price (around £700-£800

^^ What he said!

If you can do it yourself and just pay for the materials then yes as it is your time and you learn something.

2-3K on a respray is a lot of money in my book. Just wouldn't think it is worth it unless you are gonna keep the car for years and make sure no-one drives into you. I have had 3 cars totalled and in two cases I was sat still in a queue of traffic.

To give you an idea I spent about £280 on materials for mine and probably about 150 hours stripping down, prepping, painting and rebuilding. And I didn't do the roof, bonnet and bootlid yet. And I have probably another 2-3 days polishing until I am happy. It was a colour change though so I couldn't cut corners around windows, door shuts etc.

Had to take virtually the whole interior out, windows out, doors off and stripped, wings off, bootlid off, spoiler off, lights out etc etc. It is a lot of work.

It is gonna get expensive if you are paying someone else for all that time ;)

yeh hadnt considered if you know someone who can do it, you can half the cost by doing the prep work yourselt too, however the finish will be dependant on your prep quality. its like every thing else - the more effort you put into the preperation the better the result
