DIY window tinting?

Post by A1ex » Fri May 25, 2012 1:07 pm

Has anyone done window tinting themselves before w/o being a pro and had good results?

I'm thinking about tinting the back windows on the lude as I have the tinting film kicking around but I don't want it to look like the backs of the vans you see around the place

If you have the film anyway then I would give the sides a go. They are not too bad. And if it goes wrong then just peel it off fairly quickly.

The best tip I was given was use distilled water as the applicator spray - not tap water - it leaves marks.

Don't even attempt the back!! I did the sides and had enough for the back left so I thought I would give it a go. It was a complete disaster. I pretty much ended up totally losing it and getting glued to the back window with tinting film. I am sending it to a mate of mine who has a tinting business to get it done.

^^^^^^ this.

I looked and learned and decided the cash i had spent on film was best left wasted. if its to get done it will be a pro. its the rear windows in coupes. nasty as you cant get to them. the pro will cut the film down the middle and put it on in two pieces.

if you want it done its worth getting it done somewhere with a good rep.

I am toying with the idea but to be honest I dont want to look like a drug dealer :?

I'd give it a go, but only if you can afford to waste the tint vinyl
