Rear N/S arch and sill welding part 1

Post by Vtecmec » Fri May 25, 2012 11:31 pm

I move house in 3 weeks, so there’s been a big push to get the car in a state where I can transport it, but there’s so much left to do, it's going to be tight! :scaredtoss:

I picked these up from JDM-BB4, little covers for the brake callipers, the're something that have always been missing from my car.

Image

I popped out the little metal inserts, de-rusted and painted and cleaned up the plastic too.

Image

Image

Along with all the other little plastic trim pieces from underneath.

Image

I started to fit all the fiddly little bits, as much as possible before crawling under the car, so I started to bolt stuff together.

Image

All these bolts, there seems so many!

Image

I finished the brakes off with stainless stuff, and while I was at it painted the wheel brace. You can also see one of the ABS sensors lurking in the background.

Image

I’ve de-rusted and cleaned the handbrake cables, totally unnecessary really, but it would be rude not to finish these last bits off.

Image

Some other underfloor stuff, the rusty bracket is currently holding the pipes in correct order, I'll do that too once the other have been refitted.

Image

The repair panels I made earlier finally found their way onto the car.

Image

The welder was playing up big time, hence the scruffy welds, I struggled with it for a while before deciding to completely refurb it, pretty much replacing every wearing part, after this it started behaving, but I lost so much time; also at this point I also switched to 0.6mm wire rather than the 0.8 I had been using. I wish I had done this earlier as it’s much more suitable for the thin panels.

Some more stuff in place.

Image

Removing spot welds.

Image

And off comes the rest of the sill.

Image

Trial fitting.

Image

A solid inner arch.

Image

And some more bits in their place.

Image

More sooner rather than later I hope.
