A wash and a drive
Well I definitely don't think I'll be refitting the Azect lip until I've feathered out my driveway
...



So I finally cleaned the car today and took her on a bit of a potter to the next town and found a nice quiet spot to park up...

Next job once I was back home and after tea, I thought I'd finally get to the bottom of why this particular Prelude seems to perform so well.
First of all I can see it's running a P13 as would be expected...

Then out it comes...

And off with the cover...

And there doesn't look to be anything special inside whatsoever
...


So my only conclusion that I was prepared for in the case it was a completely standard ECU is that the reason Vtec kicks in at 4500rpm is because the KPH to MPH convertor is playing silly buggers with the rev counter and that it's just a much better performing engine than my project lude was, as although that one was producing 205bhp, it did have a ridiculous torque curve that I was obviously used to...

Does that sound like a legitimate reason? I would like to put it on a dyno, but I can't really afford to at the moment.
Oh and for the record, black marker pen does hold up extremely well under regular engine temps
...

did you have a look on the back side of the board to see if the chip has been replaced? could have been soldered straight to the board as apposed to using a chip holder!
kph to mph converter has nothing to do with the rev counter!
also do you have vtec in 1st or are you limited to 112mph?
what are the pi springs like ride wise? i like the look, low enogh to look good, not so low that the missus will notice

Well I do feel I'm aloud as Honda really shouldn't have given these cars so much wheel arch in the first place
And also I'm going to be going a tad more OEM in the wheel department to make up for it

Oops, missed your previous post.
I thought the rev sender was linked to the VSS as well? Either way I always remember from my project lude that if I was in 5th, that at say 3000rpm I'd be doing about 60mph, but with this lude I'm only doing about 2400rpm when I'm doing 60
No Vtec in first and definitely not restricted
So the convertor is gearbox side.
And the Pi springs get a good rating from me so far. They're by no means hard. In fact I can't feel a difference at all when I'm just pootling along my road, and my road is rough and full of speed bumps
I didn't go mad for cornering today mind as my rear ARB is really rattling today (Not sure if the extra loss in ride height has anything to do with that
), but I should be receiving a set of OEM ARBs any day now (Finally
) courtesy of Josefsan to hopefully put that right.
Oh and also I removed that rear strut brace Phil... As it's shocking (Pardon the pun). I drove around the block before I went for my drive today as the back end did seem much more rattly than it had previously. Sounded like I hadn't tightened up one of the rear top mounts or something. I had, but when tugging on the rear strut brace there was loads of play. I tried tightening up the brackets to the bar on both sides, but couldn't as it's too awkward to get in there for any decent leverage. But then I realised the thread that screws into the actual bar was moving quite a lot as well. So I removed the whole thing to discover that on the driver's side only 5 threads had engaged and there was loads of play
but on the passenger side only 2 threads were engaged!
Needless to say I'm not putting it back
You could see the base plates had bent to fit the profile of the shock towers as well, but were still majorly out
Afterwards the noise from back there was much better, so it was definitely playing a part in it.
