great news the small bolt that secures the rotor arm to the shaft fell out and was rattling about in the cap. the camshaft was turning but Not the rotor arm. The bolt has damaged the sensor pick up but Not the fins on the distributor. All running ok now though.

Easy fix man, glad it's sorted (got the fog btw - cheers!)

grr.
finished work last night @ 8pm.
last out of the building and got into my car and no bang just turning over. same issue as when i bought the car.
so i stripped out the main relay and as clear as day you could see the dry joint in the solder.
so as a precaution i soldered all of the contacts and it started up straight away.
so its an easy fix. 45 mins all back together.

Where is the relay. I removed the cover and couldnt see it. If i bang the under side of the dash the warning light goes out and car starts.

the relay is a big black box located to the right of the fusebox as you look at it. about 5x7cm

remove 5 or so phillips screws to remove the panel and pocket/fuse cover. and it is clipped onto the side of the fuse box. un clip it and remove the multiplug harness. pull back the 2 clips that hold the board in place and hey presto. solder about 10-12 joints. easy
