could you use acid etch and then colour over the top

I've sen good results with VHT primer and any paint you can lay your hands on for a top coat.

I've done a few over the years. Pretty much any paint has worked well except whites. They go yellow fairly quickly with the heat :D

After all the work Vtecmec has done to get his car including the engine bay as pristine as possible I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with a transparent bonnet to show it all off! ;-)
