Actually Nathan, the increments thing is right.
I too, add a bit, and then some. I've had a couple of occassions where the 'then some' wasn't enough and a message appears saying you need to increase the amount to a minimum of £##. Which during the last few seconds doens't give you enough time to correct it and submit. Missed maybe two items like this in all my time.

So even if it's been at £40 and their maximum bid is £80, if you put in £80.99 it doesn't let you win? You sure it's not a case someone else has just pushed the bid up to £80 seconds before you hit submit? As then it obviously wouldn't be enough to enter £80.99.
