Yeah, that's what I thought. I was told 2 years max to take up insurance or lose the NCB. I am waiting to hear on a new job where it’s a car allowance rather than a company car. So fingers crossed and I can just insure a new car instead of wasting money on a car just sitting in a garage.
Exactly my thoughts on the engine bay. To be fair the fire didn’t affect much really, some burnt wires and that was it – completely down to LLL’s fire extinguisher being right there when I needed it. But like you say, it’ll need doing one day as I’m keeping the car for the long haul, so may as well do it now, while it’s accessible. Mainly before I install the new ABS deleted lines, everything else is easily removed or masked up.
I would do it in four parts, the firewall, then a side, then the other side and then the front slam panel section. This way I can concentrate on a small section at a time, where they join the finish won’t be noticeable at all as things will hide it, like the fusebox and main harness.
I’m not going to get into shaving the bay – too much effort for what is no longer a show but a go car. I just want it refreshed a little to last longer.
