Don't think this is anything to worry about as long as the smoke isn't always there. Mine tabs quite a bit in the morning, especially on cold mornings!

Seems all fine this morning. Started her up (without accelerator Nick ;-) ) Nothing to be seen out the exhaust initially, then several seconds later the "white cloudy stuff" started to show itself (though no where near as intense as in the video), so I just set off for work. Seemed to clear pretty quickly actually, then by the time I parked up at work, got out with the engine still running to have a look, there was nothing to be seen... Even with a few blips on the throttle.

So yeah, looks like it was just an excessive amount of "steam" :D Panic over

Cheers for the optimism guys ;-)

Now, to find this god damn leak

good now you just need to start putting in the cheapo 10w-40 semi synth
this should save you a few quid when topping up until you find the leak and the thicker viscosity should mean the leaks will slow slightly

You could do a compression test if your suspecting headgasket failure.

My track Prelude is often like this on start-up after it's been standing, especially in cooler, damp
conditions. Have never had any problems because of it.

Also, it normally never uses any oil when on track, but had one day when it did. Next track day it
was fine again.

:? :D

I reckon condensation for sure, my lude makes bags of it on cold damp mornings. There's a road about a mile from me where I always have to stop for a junction, on cold days a big cloud of steam usually blows past the drivers window  on hot days there's no hint of smoke driving around after start up, so I'm just guessing lude's hate the cold :P

If you're worried about the lude you should see my Golf, huge upturned twin exit back box means every cold damp morning the car creates a total smoke screen of steam  went away after it ran up to temp and it passed a sniffer test, so was literally just a result of the exhaust slowly filling up with water overnight :?

Cheers guys. Not so worried now Greg but tah.

Going back to the oil leak. When I first noticed the loss of oil, the dip stick was just below minimum and the oil light only flickered on once when I pulled up in a parking space. Since then I topped it up to the max and I've driven to work and back twice (12 miles each way). On the way back home on Friday the oil light started flickering on again whilst I was driving! :?

I've just checked the level and it's still on maximum :? If anything it's slightly over. So I'm going to drain a little oil out before I drive her anywhere else, but would the oil level being fractionally too high cause the light to flicker on? I had just finished driving slightly "irratically" (though safely) just before the light came on.

For a moment there I thought I'd managed to dump half my oil in 48 miles! :?

From my own experience... I accidentally overfilled before and no light came on. Similarly I've gone to check it and found it to be as yours was on the dipstick, just under min. and no light then either. Is your light okay? Is my light okay?!

snap!
well at least your oil light comes on Nathan - ive run on low oil once or twice and have slightly overfilled on the odd occasion over last 12+ years and ive never seen the oil light come on or even flicker into life....
tbh id be concerned - i wouldnt ignore an oil light in the lude - i think you should get an expert opinion - worth paying for the peace of mind.
