Exhaust gaskets

Post by JayJay » Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:25 am

I've got a new exhaust coming soon, does anyone know where I can get some exhaust gaskets for a 2.5" system?

It's the whole system, so manifold: manifold/downpipe, downpipe/decat, decat/center, center/backbox.

Cheers,
Jay

Do you know that they don't come with any?

Well they may do. I'm getting the exhaust from JDM-BB4, so I figure if it does they may be a bit old. Just waiting to hear back from him.

I figured I'd never read of anywhere, so it'd be useful to get some places together that could supply these parts, in case anyone comes-a-looking.

*edit so when I said new I meant new to me :P

Ah ok. What brand is it? Depends on whether they're the universal flange plates or not. The exhaust manifold to head however will just be a standard OEM one (or the like) so Motorfactors for instance can sort you out there.

Do you know that they're not crush-rings?

On my Pro-Speed cat-back to decat & decat to Mugen downpipe, I just used a quality instant gasket. That ran for well over a year and a half without blowing. I've only just removed the Mugen from the decat recently and it was still bonding well. Obviously the proper gaskets are better, but if you do get stuck it's definitely an option.

Cheers bud, I wasn't sure if instant gasket would be ok. The current manifold gasket is pretty new as it is, so I may leave it.

It's a Tanabe manifold/downpipe and a Blueflame decat and catback. I'll see if Dave can point me to a shop that sells the right sized gaskets, if not I may have to tell the garage to just use instant gasket where I cannot supply proper gaskets.

Like I said, they may be universal flanges on there, so the chances are the garage will have some anyway... At least for the decat - midsection - catback. It's probably both ends of the downpipe that will be the issue.

I would make your own gaskets before using liquid gasket as a long term solution. I have never bought a univeral gasket before but there should be some for 2.5".

There's a few different kinds of sheet gasket material though. Make sure you get some specific for exhausts if you do go down that route. Anything less than and it will blow almost instantly.
