Short Vs Long filter?

I always buy my HAMP oil filters in bulk. Shopping for some more I notced that you can get long or short filters. What is the difference? Obviously one is longer but other than that?

I have always used the short ones and get them for ~£50 for 6. H-Tune sell individual filters, £7.99 long and £11.49 short.

The long filters are identical in shape to the new std Honda filter design. The "shorty" filter is supposed to be the preferred one used by the tuners. The shorty is supposed to improve your oil pressure slightly.

It's just an age related thing. Can't remember the details exactly, but I think it was during the 80's they switched from long to short.

Also I remember once I added a sandwich plate, to get the thread in on mine, the space get very tight with the longer filter. Took a little persuasion. I have a shorty now, much easier to fit and the slightly extra oil pressure.

^^ Damn thats true, I didnt think of that. I am getting a sandwich plate for an oil cooler.

If you are getting a sandwich plate get the shorter filter as it will be much easier to fit!

Long filter and a Type S = No chance...as the intake manifold is in the way unless short and its too much of a stretch below.

Blueprint do a short filter also. Placed back to back with a HAMP filter is almost identical

And a only about £6 a filter.
Cant remember part no off the top of my head.
Should be one attached to my engine Alaistair
