(LB) Had a bit of an accident. Single Wiper Conversion

Post by NafemanNathan » Mon Feb 06, 2012 2:21 pm

Had a bit of time off from the lude recently as I released I was neglecting my bathroomless house. It's still bathroomless, but it's closer to having one now

Anyway, the old ludebug's back so I've done a few minor things.

The first thing recently wasn't really my choice to have done, but due to my dizzy failing, before I realised it was this I tried bump starting it. So pushing the car to the far corner of the carpark for maximum run-up, I allowed my dearest to get behind the wheel and guide it. So moments later....

Image

Image

£140 later the crease is pulled out, light replaced, and the replacement bumper is fitted prematurely (sanded, but unpainted). I obviously replaced the dizzy and also fitted some lovely red 8mm high performance silicone HT leads :)

On a subtle modificationary side, I've been intending to remove my front wiper arms for a while intending to sand and repaint them, due to them looking a little worse for wear...

Image

But before I headed off to Glastonbury for the week I spotted on ebay a BNIB Storm single wiper conversion for the prelude. I didn't get my hopes up for winning the bid being I only placed the 99p starting bid, but when I returned home I was pleasantly suprised  ...

Image

Checkout the RRP!!! And this was still brand new, all bags still sealed! Probably my best ebay bargain to date :D ...

Image

So fitting. The only option was to remove the bonnet. (A fun job when there's just one of you. An even funner job when there's just one of you when you're putting it back again! lol)...

Image

You obviously have to remove the plastic cover thingy to get at all the gubbins, which then opens you to a whole container of a bunch of crap!...

Image

So having removed the motor etc...

Image

I decided to do my thing and have a bit of a spring clean :D ...

Image

And then installed the Storm single wiper dubree...

Image

After a lot of jiggery-pokery the wiper was wiping centrally and parked in position 8) ...

Image

I understand single wiper conversions are to everyone's taste, but even being slightly raised when parked, it still looks cleaner than the oem wipers.

You may very well have noticed I finally got hold of some proper silicone joiners for my induction  And the ram-air pipe is back in play 8) ...

Image

Image

and I also got hold of some clear/white side repeaters to :D ...

Uber kudos on the sick ass clean bay too, that is lovely! =D>

I gotta ask though - where are your front indicators??? Been trying to spot some lights hidden somewhere but unless they're now in the main lights themselves, I'm stumped!

Have you tested the wiper performance yet though? I am just a bit concerned that you are effectively halving the efficiency of it through only having the one blade.

Still, not like it rains much.

It actually wipes seemingly more effortlessly (assuming being there's only one cam instead of two now) and the coverage is perfect to! :) Actually covers a small corner on the drivers side low down that wasn't covered before... makes all the difference

Back to work with the lude then and you've certainly been busy. :D

Unfortunate knock, but she's being nursed back to health. Sorry to hear about the dizzy bud - all too common thing to go on these and not a cheap fix for a new/refurbed unit.

Liking the Storm wiper - never seen a lude one before and it sounds like it works well.

Keep it up bud. Some nice Euro skirts would set it off nice.
But then you'll also need to colour code the UKDM lip or get another bigger splitter. Then you'll want the rear and so on. It's a never ending spiral!

Ideally I wanted to get my hands on West Wings skirts and front lip, but I just can't justify the price at the moment :( Your skirts should do me just fine tho :D

I'll have some more pictures up come the weekend hopefully... A bit of an experiement body colour wise

Serious? lol.... Check out a third of the way down page 11  I wanted to widen the mouth and make room for the ram air pipe. Just need something to finish off the end of the pipe though and clean it all up. Haven't come across anything just yet though :)
