^^ thanks for the info.

I think I have found the solution to the temp problem  An inline 1/2" threaded oil temp guage adapter. Previously I didnt find the treaded version  hence my confusion.

http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/OIL-S ... index.html <- I'm liking the name of the shop, classy

Question - The inline oil sensor would be positioned after the sandwhich plate. This means that when the car is warming up the temp guage will return a very low number at it is not reading the temp of the oil circulating in the engine. Is that really going to be a probelm for me? Once the oil temp hits 80C the thermostat in the sandwhich plate opens and allows the oil to flow to the cooler. Only then will I be getting an oil temp reading.

Also which side would it be best to install the inline sensor? In the out line or the return? I suppose the out line will give the closest engine oil temp reading?

In the out line, yes.

If it was me, I'd like to know a reading at whatever engine temperature from startup. Can you not fit one of those MMS adapters direct to your sandwich plate?

Edit: Use two, one on the out for pressure, one on the in for temp?

I know what you mean.

What is that line coming off the base of the oil filter location (the thick hose coiling round to the right)? I wonder if that is worth tapping on to instead?

isn't it an heat exchanger between oil and coolant ?

I cant find much info in the service maual about it.

I am beginning to think that the easiest way around this is to use two sandwich plates, one ontop of the other and have the lower one with the sensors installed. :?

Why can't you do what I suggested Merl?

Or do the whole drill and tapping the sandwich plate you have?

Thanks julienh. I think I might have to go and have a look on my engine to see if there is any differnce to that diagram.

Nathan - I know that would be possible. I would have to see if there is room on a flat surface on the side of the plate.
