ie, 10mm ht leads / good plugs, skimmed head, full stainless steel system, ram induction kit and serviced every 2 months !

took it for a dino and before it i got petrol flush and blasted down the motorway, them i got that NOS stuff you put in with your petrol and was pushing out 221 bhp at the wheels at 14c and 224bhp at 12c :)

im running under 200 now because of bad back pressure and no 2nd gear , and the fact i havent serviced it in a while :(

im sure you can get more out of it that me, mine has over 200km on the clock too :(

(LB) New Aluminium Half Rad & FSE Power Boost Valve

Post by NafemanNathan » Tue Feb 07, 2012 9:50 am

I little progress and some relieve since before xmas ;-) ...

Since having my cambelt snap on me at the start of November last year, literally on the way bac from my first dyno run, and thus having a new head fitted my baby's never been quite right. She had a major flat spot around 2500-3000 revs. Everything was pointing at the cams being a tooth out even though my mechanic was adement they weren't. I'd been quoted by a tuning specialist to redo the work my mechanic had done, which is obviously all another mechanic could do, but I just couldn't afford to pay out more hundreds of pounds on a hunch that it had been set up wrong. I've also been toying with the idea of setting up the cams myself with a set of dial gauges, being I've now got a set of vernier cam-gears fitted, but just not had the time or weather.

Anyway, I was starting to come around to the idea of leaving it until I was able to afford getting my P28 mapped and have my cams tuned properly at the same time on a rolling road. Slightly disheartened that I wasn't going to be able to feel the full benefit of my future mods until the remap I took my lude back to my original mechanics to get the tappets done. He'd told me I'd need to bring it back to get the tappets done after about 1000 miles of having the new belt fitted, and pretty much bang on 1000 miles my tappets started hollering out to me lol. When I went to pick her up after work today he informed me she sounds "Good ;-) and a couple of the tappets were quite slack... There's a possibility now that with the adjustment it could sort out my flat-spot troubles." Of course that would have been fabulous, but I wasn't going to get my hopes up.

But hey ho! The man was right! :D The flat spot is no more... At all! :D And boy does she PURRRRRRRRRRRRRR now 8)

To think that's all it was all that time  Anyone with noisey tappets I highly recommend you have them seen to ;-)

Also today, my next stage finally arrived. I've been waiting for a bargain one of these for a while and finally picked up an XS Power Half-size Aluminium Race radiator to replace my current "falling apart" oem rad...

It's half the width, but a nice 60mm deep ;-)

Also, I've had this sitting around for a while to...

Image

Although it could have potentially ridded me of my flat spot I wanted to cure that properly and only wanted to fit the boost valve to provide me with a boost when pulling away and under heavy acceleration.

Anyway, it's obviously been a while since my last post, but I thought this worthy enough to mention :-)

When you've fitted the boost valve, are you putting it on a dyno?

Tell me about it! I'm so relieved I held out getting anyone else to look at it and spending another small fortune.

Will do Drew ;-)

And yep, eventually Floydie. Although it won't be a fair comparison to my current set up. I was producing 204.8bhp before the belt went, but now I've had a new lower mileage head fitted, and having just had the tappets done she does feel smoother and faster than she ever has done... But then you never know how much of a placebo that is :)

Also, I'm going to have my new radiator fitted by then, along with everything else I've had waiting to fit for months, including my new induction set up. The plan is to get my P28 mapped, so obviously I'll get some comparison readings to share with you then :-D

Well there she is... sat outside my kitchen window... Sorn

Not the best of pictures, but then not the best of reasons :-( ;violin

I feel sad inside, but then at the same time, know it's the right thing to do for a while, and also means I can properly get in that engine bay now ;-) I think I'm gonna strip her interior out as well =; ... but I'm gonna do it properly 8)

There's a number of things I want to get done to her, including new poly bushes everywhere which is gonna cost me nearly a grand. So taking her off the road for a while should give me a chance to save up for that due to cheaper running costs of my new 1.3 Polo ;-) Also it'll give me a chance to do all the work I have planned under the bonnet without giving me the inclination to rush it so I can go test her, thus also saving me money in the long run (or at least just spread the costs out ;-) ).
