half size radiators

Post by A1ex » Thu Feb 21, 2013 5:25 pm

Another question,

what sort of power can a 1/2 size raditor supply adequate cooling for?

Also, I'd assume an oil cooling raditor would help with the cooling a bit

Seen them on 280bhp civics before, they're quite thick.

honda doesnt use air cooling for oil, they use water cooling system to keep temperature of oil.

as for half size rad. its all about cores and fans, chose visely and you will be fine

I had a decent 50mm thick triple core half rad and Rich advise I go for full size due to the power I was going for, even with an oil cooler. All depends how high and long you're revving for.

Well, I'd like to get up to 260-270 bhp as an end goal. Don't plan on giving it a life in vtec tho as it'll be my daily still.

Do you plan on tracking it at all?

I'd like to think yes, but it certainly won't be it's main purpose. If its close then would be better to go with a full size by the sounds of it

It'd only take one track day for a half rad to not be adequate enough.

As said above if you want to take it out on track get a full size rad. My oem struggled to keep temps down on full days, fitted a big thick aluminium one and didn't have any more problems with cooling.
