Unless you have a problem with the origional auto fan switch then I wouldn't do it, you could end up over cooling the coolant to much and causing something to warp.

Alot of people do it for when they come off the track, they run the fan with the engine off, next time they start up its like poring cold water over a warm engine. I don't like the sound of that at all.

^^^ What Pete said. You'd have to be strict on when to use it if you had one. I use to consider having one, but now I'm just going for a more cooling efficient rad.

Unless your car is actually over-heating it's fine mate ;-)

OR you could refit the aircon fan as that automatically activates when the engine is really hot.

well the lude has stalled out a couple of times recently when ive left it idling after a run...and its done this when the fan has been going to kick in. Its never stalled in traffic tho :)
Id only be using the fan switch when i felt it neeed that extra cooling and normally that would be after a run then hitting heavy traffic so thats when engine temp peaks. I am also planning going out on track when i finally get my supply of brave pills :lol:
ive removed the aircon and aircon fan in the engine bay but still have the control unit fitted in the cabin so prob could refit the aircon fan for a start.
Just wondering if the stalling could be linked to the Main Relay :?

The air con in the pulsar has been removed but the electrics are still there, so bridging two wires to control the fans was a simple job. If i'm in traffic and the car gets really hot I just turn the air con and heater on. The fans run and I can turn them off when I like by simply turning the air con off.

If the car is stalling when the fans are just about to run then the extra electrical load generated by the fans starting to come on has stalled the car. Can you up the idle a bit via the adjust screw so a little more air is entering via the screw rather than the IACV which is not quick enough in adjusting to stop the engine stalling? Be careful though when doing this, there is a part in the manaul which talks about setting the base idle as if you go to far you get a rolling idle.

refitting the aircon fan and putting a switch on sounds like a good idea.
i guess i need to check the new exhaust for any leaks as this would probably cause a slightly fluctuation/low idle but this seems constant when driving so not sure this is the issue. i dont really want to tinker with the base idle as ive never had to before. might replace the main relay as i have a couple of spares. :)

If you reduce the coolant level in the radiator, it won't actually make the engine any cooler, because the thermostat still won't open until it's at the right temperature. What it will do though, is possibly make the coolant too cold in the radiator, which isn't good to throw into an engine which is at temperature.

Is your issue that the engine bay is getting too hot, causing heat-soak? Do you have the original air filter, or have you put a pod/cone filter on, which draws air from inside the engine bay, rather than the original which draws external air from behind the bumper? Switching a fan on will pull air though the radiator, heating it up, and actually *adding* heat under the bonnet by removing it from the cooling system.

ive got a type s airbox and k&n panel filter in there but with resonator removed
yes heat soak is an issue - its only a minor issue at the moment - the cooling system has been totally overhauled - the only thing i dint replace in the last 6 months is the thermostat which iwas changed about 3 years ago. bear in mind i have a high mileage H22 engine.
maybe the heat soak is just something ive noticed since i removed the mani heat shield and upgraded the exhaust system.
