Heaters at last

Post by newkid » Wed Apr 23, 2014 1:41 pm

Just a small update, car started running cold on the motorways, wasnt like this all the way home from Merc's so could only be one thing, the thermostat had obviously gave up the ghost, new one arrived today and fitted, old one was well gubbed

Should be getting the tanabe catback fitted later as well :D

Tanabe fitted

Post by newkid » Thu Apr 24, 2014 7:58 pm

Well went over to the guy that usually does my exhausts to get the tanabe fitted off the old 4th gen, needed a few little modifications to make it fit, decided against having the decat fitted as when it was on the 4th gen it was loud so figured the cat would help reduce the noise. Turned out to be a really good move as its now a nice deep tone.

From my readings the centre section is meant to be a direct fit, this turned out to be false, the centre hangers needed to be moved for it to sit correctly in the tunnel under the car.

The welded up box section is the old hanger location.

Image

This is how the cat end used to look, it was cut and extended to mate up with a JDM cat/decat and IMO was poorly done.

Image

The decat was removed and the bad looking section was cut out and replaced/extended to mate up to the UKDM size cat on the car.

Image

Now im not 100% sure if I'm happy with how the backbox section is sitting, its sits in about 1" from the rear of the lip and hangs a little bit below the lip, you have to bare in mind the tailpipe section on this in only about an inch longer than the rear silencer. Reason for this is we both agreed not to butcher it as it saved cutting away any of the motegi lip and left it as a genuine tanabe axleback but if I decide or by others views its not how it should be Im just to give him a call and he will change it for me free of charge.

Image

Ill get some clearer pics of exactly how its sitting tomorrow and hopefully get some views on it.

Decided that I don't like how the exhaust is sitting so cars being booked back in when my exhaust guy is feeling better as he's been ill for the last few weeks.

On a better note I've struck a deal with @indigolemon for his koni shocks and tein springs from the now deceased eve.

Pic makes it look good bud, its probably about 1.5 to 2 inch below the lip and a good 2 inch inwards, the plan is to have it sitting nearer the lip and further out, he reckons the underside of the lip will need cut due to the style of the box but since its underneath which I'm not to fussed about as it wont be seen.

Yea konis should be a nice addition plus the added benefit of the teins means the car will be sitting better.

Re: Newkid's bb9, Started work on the koni's

Collected the koni/tein setup off @indigolemon over the weekend and decided before fitting them I'd give them a good cleanup.

The springs are almost like new, the konis needed most of the paint removed as it was bubbled to bits, wasnt until I started removing it became apparent that koni's paint is pants.

Just need need to give them a good sand down and then give them a lick of paint, unsure whether to stick with yellow or just paint them another colour.

On the plus side indy also sold me his atr calipers, ill still be running the 282 size discs but with twin pot goodness :D
