This is the problem - what you've been driving already.
There are so many cars I have driven that I really like, and always thought I might own one day, the problem is when you compare them to a lude.....

EK9 is basically scene points and you'll really miss the lude torque IMHO.
EP3 is a performance bargain, if you can handle the looks they are hugely practical. All jokes aside, when you drop the back seats they are like a van.
ATR would give you the familiarity of the H22 of course.
DC2 only driven one once, but again it's the lower grunt of 2nd and 3rd in the lude that I missed. It's a big part of the drivability I think.
S2k Again, a great car but feels like it needs a H22! Plus you cam't get sod all in it...
New Civic Type R? Good luck if you can get on with the looks, I just can't get past them at all, even with great numbers.
DC5 Again only driven one once, really liked it, but just felt my particular lude already did what it did, but looked better doing it.

All strictly IMHO and I'm by no means using the rose tinted Prelude specs, it's just it's a tough car to top for all round daily usage and fun. That can actually be a problem!

Just one thing, I wonder why people have it in their head that if they spend 4 or 5k sorting a lude, that it will still give you problems/rot?? :? I think it's because they buy them cheap, needing work and then think they will be constant maintenance. They won't, if you spend the money propeprly they will be as reliable as any other car, it's just that most are at that point where they need a little £££ and TLC to be their best again.
Oh and from what I've seen, ALL the other cars of the same age are just as suspectible to rot, it's just that the majority of the DC2 you see (for example) have been looked after 'because type R', whereas most ludes have been left in front gardens for 5 years, even half of the ones on here.... I WENT THERE! :o :P ;)

This is what I was starting to get at.

The silver one out the front is actually doing incredibly well. After 3 years the arches still haven't bubbled :)

Nice post Benny. Thanks. Everyone is slowly reaffirming what I'd hoped - the DC5 is Honda's closest thing to a modern 'lude.. just not quite as good. I've had 6 'Ludes and I've had to do the same things to them all, it feels a bit like Groudhog Day.

I've had good luck and bad luck with them too.. and so many have been beaten half to death now, plus most that are for sale already have rust (apart from a few local exceptions on here, of course). So just now I need something that I can buy and not have to worry about for a while. Even if I buy the nicest 'lude out there, it's still going to be 21 years old at it's youngest.. that's great for girlfriends, but maybe not Prelude's. Plus I don't know which has higher maintenance costs. As much as I love a Prelude, I don't think I can give one enough time and effort to keep it in tip-top condition. I'm hoping a DC5 will be a little less demanding of my attention (and money).

Quick question - how much of a Prelude do I still need to own to be a member on here? I've pretty much given up on Facebook but feel like I still need some form of electronic social interaction

FWIW, I'd most probably pick the DC5 too.

As for your last question, don't worry, there's been all manner of people that no longer own ludes that we cant get rid of that we still have the pleasure of accommodating. ;)
