Spare-O-Deck 1989

Got a car that isn't a Lude? There's no condemnation here. Tell us about it!

   that's cool - it isn't actually fitted on the bonnet section yet it's just tied up if that's the curve you mean (the fixtures for bonnet were missing in the kit).

I'll probably get bored of it eventually, like everything, but it's cool for now - plus it hides all the flakey paint on the bumper until I can get it all repainted ;)

Adapter plate turned up too - and I didn't get stung with import charges which is amazing! Just a few more bits needed then I can get it all finished up. Hopefully it'll run well enough with the map I've acquired.

Small updates, have started tinting the windows. Plan on doing rear pop outs, rear quarters, rear screen and moon roof thing on the tailgate.

It's 'gold mirror' tint but on the car it's like a variation of the bodywork colour so it looks quite smart. I'll get a better photo when it's all on.

Also fitted rear camber arms and hoorah, no need for arch flares - legal without :) photo is before and after of the same corner, this was the one with the most excessive poke of all 4.

Are those the rear camber arms you had off me? (If it's in fact you I sold them to). If so, you've had them for years!

Yes those are the ones  they were intended for the other one, hence why I hadn't used them yet, they'd been in the box you sent them in for probably at least 2 years. But decided to go all out with the spare so they're on that now ;)

Spent ages over last week and weekend porting and matching my head to the b16 intake mani, sent it off to be skimmed and pressure tested

Image

Aaaaaand they called to say it's got a crack in it  absolutely gutted for all the lost hard work but luckily I have the original head still which (afaik) has absolutely no issues so work is starting on that one now.

Did manage to get the bottom end built though so at least that's one step forward, just hoping there's no issues with that now, knowing my luck (it is unlikely though).

Aww gutted. I'm assuming they spotted the crack early on, so at least there's no serious money lost.

Great effort on the matching though. That with a Dremel?

Bruce did the port matching with a die grinder to get rid of the bulk, we used instant gasket to create an impression of the manifold to get the correct shape - it actually only needed some taking out of the top for injectors, and then a friend helped port and polish it with a dremel :)

I might go a bit deeper in myself on the next head now I know what the score is, I'm always terrified I'll muck it up and it'll be irreplaceable though

A few updates on this.

Got my second head back from testing and it's spot on, had been port matched and I've port/polished it, bisimoto uprated valve springs are in. (Don't worry I put goggles on a few seconds after this was taken, moron me forgot at the start cuz I was too excited to get on with it)

Image

B16 modified intake is on. This just involved shaving the top and drilling new holes lower down, the bottom holes all line up. The A20 gasket is also perfectly sized for the b16 intake so didn't need modifying.

Image

OBD1 adapter plate and F22 distributor are on.

Image

Reground cam and bisimoto cam gear are on. Although I doubt I'd ever use Piper again - they said 7-10 days turnaround and it was a couple of months of chasing them, loads of phone calls, before it was even done let alone delivered back to me (this was meant to be my anniversary present too!)

Engine has been painted too (flash vs no flash block), black with gold glitter block, head is bare metal with rocker cover to match the car.

Image
Image

Modified some camber adjustable 2G Lude front arms to be more adjustable to sort enough camber to cover the tyres (not too excessive it's probably 2-3degrees max, similar to rear).

Image

Old engine came out yesterday, then gave the car a wash over and fully cleaned out the bay ready to paint it (NATO green just to get rid of the red tbh).
