Whilst the lump is out and there is a bit of room to work with I've gotten round to something that has bugged me for the last 10 years!

Lack of ABS, more specifically a code 1 error.

So I whipped out the ABS modulator and pump, which even with the engine removed is a bit of a kebab.

Not only does it throw an error code, but looks pretty un-pretty too.

Ewww.

Amazingly the brackets cleaned up quite nicely after 24 hours in the magic bucket.

Fixing the issue was a bit more involved than I expected as the entire assembly that the pump drives had siezed together, looks like the fluid had never been changed and water had done its worst.

Whilst I am at it I thought it prudent to tidy up the wiring loom too.

Being an ex-automatic car, there is lots of unneeded cables and connectors so i split the loom and removed all of these, also took the opportunity to move some of the connectors around, namely the IACV, EGR (for PWM boost control) and other random solenoids.

It got messy.......

Interesting on the ABS as I'm about to do the very same, except with a replacement unit, then give the fun job of fitting it to someone else.

As the gearbox is from an ATR, I realised that the 4th gen VSS wont fit, but if I was to fit the ATR VSS I'd lose the variable power steering.

So I looked at the two items for about 5 minutes and realised I could probably swap the gears at the bottom to make this work. So I split them both apart and pressed (with a hammer) the gears off the end of each of the shafts.

I fitted most of the ancillaries, wires and hoses to the engine....

So the engine is now effectively ready to go in the car, I just want to spend a bit of time cleaning and painting the engine bay before the transplant, not long now.......
