Disconnecting the battery whilst engine running causes the engine to die after a few mins.

I thought it was a clusterf uck of retards.

But yeah,

The alternator's connected to the bracket,
The bracket's connected to the engine block,
The engine block's connected to the cylinder head,
The cylinder head's connected to the cam cover,
The cam cover's connected to the earthing strap.
The earthing strap's connected to the inner wing,
The inner wing's connected to ev'ryting.
I hears the word of the Lord.

Racist.

I've run many a car short term without a battery with no issues. Surprised it took almost 2 pages for you guys to get there.

And corrected, the cam cover is actually isolated from the engine, hence why it has it's own earthing strap.
